As President Obama stated today in his Inauguration Speech, “Our journey is not complete until all our children, from the streets of Detroit to the hills of Appalachia to the quiet lanes of Newtown, know that they are cared for, and cherished, and always safe from harm.” It is in the spirit of this sense of duty to our children that I am pleased to announce The Las Vegas Trombone Co. will perform a benefit concert for the Childhood Nutrition Programs of the Three Square Food Bank organization on Saturday, January 26th at 4:00pm at Grouchy John’s Coffee.
The Childhood Nutrition Programs of Three Square provide much needed food to the underprivileged children of Southern Nevada. These programs are vital to the health of over 7,200 of our kids, with services such as “BackPack for Kids,” which provides a backpack full of food for kids on Fridays so they can eat over the weekend, “Kid’s Café,” which provides a late afternoon meal to kids without proper access to nutrition and the “Summer Food Service Program,” which gives kids a place to get a meal when school is not in session.
55% of Clark Country School District students qualify for free and reduced-price meals at school, many of them seeing their only meals while at school. The Three Square Childhood Nutrition Programs are important to the health of our community, and The Las Vegas Trombone Co. and Grouchy John’s Coffee are honored to do anything we can to support these essential services.
The Las Vegas Trombone Co. is a trombone quartet comprised of professional trombonists, Nathan Tanouye, Dave Philippus, Hitomi Shoji and Mike Dobranski. Recent performances the members of the Las Vegas Trombone Co. have been a part of, have been with: Celine Dion, Vegas! The Show, the Las Vegas Jazz Connection, the Las Vegas Philharmonic, Opera Las Vegas, Aretha Franklin and Barbra Streisand, just to name a few. On this performance, the Las Vegas Trombone Co. will present a diverse mix of music, featuring the works of Saint-Saens, Ewazen, Premru, Jobim and many more.
This performance is offered free to the public, but we will collect whatever amount you can donate and give 100% of those donations to the Childhood Nutrition Programs of Three Square. There will be limited seating, so please arrive early, get a cup of Grouchy John’s delicious coffee drinks and relax for a fun afternoon. This is a very casual event, so please come and go as you wish.
I’d like to thank J.J. Wylie and Grouchy John’s Coffee for providing a venue for us to do this, and most importantly, I’d like to thank Three Square for all of the magnificent work they do for our community. I hope you’ll join us for this special afternoon for a special cause!
